If you enjoy frozen dinners, “kiddie” food, and packing in extra veggies whenever possible, you might want to give these novel chicken tenders a shot. Caulipower, the company that introduced America to cauliflower pizza several years ago, just launched a new product featuring another beloved veggie and everybody’s favorite finger food: Sweet & Savory Chicken Tenders, made with a crispy sweet potato coating.
The frozen chicken fingers (made with chickens raised without antibiotics) are coated in a mixture of dried sweet potato and rice flour instead of regular breadcrumbs, which makes them gluten-free. The breading is also made with garlic, onion, and a blend of herbs (sage, rosemary, marjoram, and parsley).
These tuber-coated tenders pack 13 grams of protein and 14 grams of carbs per 3-ounce serving (about two tenders), as well as a bit of iron and potassium. They’re pretty quick to cook up, requiring 16 to 18 minutes in the toaster oven (the recommended cooking method). You can also bake them in a conventional oven or an air fryer.
This isn’t Caulipower’s first foray into sweet potatoes or chicken fingers. The company also sells sliced sweet potato “toasts” as well as cauliflower-breaded chicken tenders. Earlier this year the brand (which sells rice and tortillas made primarily from its namesake veggie) branched into cauliflower-based frozen pasta. And Caulipower gave its original cauliflower pizzas an upgraded stone-fired crust in May.
The new Caulipower chicken-tater tenders retail for around $9.99 a bag, according to a press release from the brand. They are currently on sale at Fresh Thyme, and you’ll be able to find them at more grocery stores nationwide soon. They’re set to arrive at Dillons, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, King Soopers, Kroger, Mariano’s, QFC, Ralphs, and Smith’s in early August, and more grocers later in 2021.
